About Chittoor

Chittoor is one of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies of Andhra Pradesh. The constituency consists of 7 assembly segments - Chandragiri, Nagari, Gangadhara Nellore, Chittoor, Puthalapattu, Palamaner, and Kuppam. Out of these, Gangadhara Nellore and Puthalapattu assembly seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes candidates. Chittoor district is the home district of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu.

Chittoor will vote on April 11, in the first phase of 2019 Lok Sabha election.

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has been holding the Chittoor seat since 1996. Prior to that, it was a Congress stronghold, except in 1984 when the TDP won the seat.

Naramalli Sivaprasad, who has been serving as the lawmaker from this seat, has been nominated by TDP this time as well. In the 2014 general election, he got 5,94,862 votes and fetched the TDP 49.62 per cent of the total votes.

YSR Congress party, which lost the Chittoor seat in 2014 general election, has fielded N Reddeppa as its candidate from this constituency.

The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which have a weaker hold in the seat, have fielded Cheemala Rangappa and Jayaram Duggani, respectively for the seat.

Among other candidates are Bahujan Samaj Party's (BSP) C Punyamurthy, Mundadugu Praja Party nominated Pallipattu Abhinav Vishnu and two Independent candidates, P Ramachandran and A Hemanth.
