Live : Narasaraopet Assembly Election 2023

Narasaraopet is one of the 25 constituencies in Andhra Pradesh. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Sambasiva Rao Rayapati of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was elected from the Narasaraopet parliamentary seat. While he got 6,32,464 votes, his closest opponent -- Ayodhya Ramireddy Alla of the YSR Congress -- managed 5,97,184.

Narasaraopet has historically been a Congress stronghold. In the third Lok Sabha election held in 1962, M Matcharaju was elected to parliament on a Congress ticket. In 1967 and 1971, it sent another Congress leader, Maddi Sudarsanam, to the Lok Sabha. In 1977 and 1980, K Brahmananda Reddi of the same party represented Narasaraopet in parliament.

Katuri Narayana Swamy of the TDP was elected from here in 1984. Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy of the Congress was elected in the 1989 and 1991 Lok Sabha elections.

While TDP candidate Kota Saidiah emerged victorious from here in 1996, Konijeti Rosaiah of the Congress was elected two years later. Congress candidate Nedurumalli Janardhana Reddy was sent to parliament from here in 1999 while party colleague Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy emerged victorious in the 2004 general elections. Modugula Venugopala Reddy of the TDP was elected from here in 2009.

There are seven assembly segments under the Narasaraopet Lok Sabha constituency. They are Pedakurapadu, Chilakaluripet, Narasaraopet, Sattenapalle, Vinukonda, Gurajala and Macherla.

Narasaraopet voted in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections, on April 11. While Sambasiva Rao Rayapati has retained the TDP ticket, the BJP and Congress have fielded Kanna Lakshmi Narayana and Pakkala Suribabu respectively.
