Who's best qualified to be HRD Minister?
NDTV Correspondent, Wednesday May 20, 2009, New Delhi

With the UPA all set for a second term at the Centre, the corridors of power and the media are abuzz with wide speculations about Cabinet hopefuls. Who'll be the next Finance Minister, the next Home Minister and so on.

With this year's election results allowing for an interesting choice of MPs - both old and young, it will be much easier for Manmohan Singh to shape his Cabinet.

Human Resource and Development: The Ministry of Human Resources Development, responsible for the development of human resources, may well see a young and dynamic leader at its helm. Kapil Sibal too could emerge as a canditate in place of Arjun Singh, who is expected to get the axe for non-performance.

So, tell us whom would you like to see as the new HRD Minister. We mention here names of frontrunners as well as other probables. If your choice is none of the given names, click on the fifth option 'other' and name your pick here...

education as a fundamental right should be aimed at grooming talent and knowledge and not be unfair by continuing reservations based on caste, what option have the poor uppercaste have and the achievers from the upper castes are literally refused and cheated of the right to good professional education because of the caste politics and policies.Do AWAY with the MENTAL Mandal commission atleast from now on.GIVE EVERYONE A FAIR CHANCE AND GIVE THE NEEDY(FINANCIALLY) SCHOLARSHIPS AND CONTINUE THE SCHOLARSHIPS BASED ON PERFORMANCE.LET MERIT ALONE SPEAK AFTER 10th STANDARD..inevitably only the best and worthy will take up the available jobs once their education is over.THE BIGGEST ROT IN THE SOCIETY IS CORRUPTION AND DELAYED JUSTICE.ELIMINATE CORRUPTION WITH DISMISSAL AND NO RETIREMENT BENEFITS AND INSTEAD EMPLOY THE QUALIFIED UNEMPLOYED IMMEDIATELY INSTEAD OF JUST TRANSFERRING THE CORRUPT AND NOT PUNISHING THEM. OUR COURTS ARE HOPELESSLY LETHARGIC AND CORRUPT TOO FIX A TIME LIMIT FOR EVERY CASE AT THE FILEING JUNCTURE ITSELF DEBAR THE ADVOCATES FOISTING FALSE CASES AND FALSE WITNESSES AND SACK THE OFFICIALS FOR WASTING THE JUDICIARY'S TIME.FIX RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS REGARDLESS OF THE DEPARTMENTS. OPEN NATIONAL SCHOOLS IN EVERY DISTRICTS WITH 3 LANGUAGES FORMULA COMPULSARY AND MAKE EVERY GOVERNMENT OFFICER WORK IN DIFFERENT STATES FOR ATLEAST 60 PERCENT OF THEIR EMPLOYMENT YEARS..NATIONALISM WILL BECOME SECOND NATURE AUTOMATICALLY.NO AMOUNT OF TECHNOLOGICAL AND FINANCIAL DEVELOPMENT IS WORTH ANYTHING IF THE FUNDAMENTAL CHARACTER OF INDIVIDUALS INTO WHOSE HANDS THESE FINANCE AND POWER IS VESTED NOT CHANGED FOR GOOD AND SELFLESS SERVICE...JAI HIND

The HRD minister should focus on improving vocational training at grass root level after grade 10. Our country will have millions and millions of unemployed engineers and MBAs in the next 10-15 years and there is no national danger bigger than an unemployed educated youth. The solution lies in training the youth for well paying jobs like construction workers, weavers, domestic servants, caterers, drivers , mechanics etc. A formal training will improve the overall productivity of the country and make our youth more employable. There is a limit to the amount of computer engineers and MBAs this country's economy can absorb.
