After breakdown of law and order, Manipur is now on the verge of a medical emergency.

If the shortage of lifesaving drugs due to militant demand on pharmaceutical companies was not enough to create a healthcare situation, economic blockades, bandhs and now curfew has created a shortfall of oxygen cylinders.

There is a real emergency in Manipur. And patients are facing acute problems.

Forty eight-year-old Kangabam Inaocha is admitted in Shija hospital. He is on a ventilator and requires continuous supply of oxygen.

When NDTV visited the hospital on Thursday afternoon , only a few hours of oxygen supply was left.

"We are very low on stock and if we don't get the supply then we have to stop routine cases and in a few days we have to close down the emergency," said Dr Kh Palin, CMD, Shija Hospital.

This crisis is because of an economic blockade by a students union and a drivers' union on both highways leading to Manipur. And two days of general strike and now curfew isn't helping the situation.
