An army Major died on the spot on Saturday when a grenade slipped from his hands while he was patrolling a forest area of Ganderbal district in Kashmir, officials said.
     
The freak incident occurred at Kangan, 40 kms from here, they said.
    
An army spokesman said investigations have been ordered and details are being ascertained.
    
A police team has been rushed to bring the body of the Major to the nearest police station.
