Pak schools reopen after week-long closure
NDTV Correspondent, Monday October 26, 2009, Islamabad
All education institutes in Pakistan re-opened on Monday after a six-day break announced in the wake of security threats.

But even as schools re-opened, attendance remained thin. Police have been directed to ensure tight security during school hours.

Schools and colleges in Lahore and Islamabad were shut for a week, fearing a backlash of Pakistan's multi-pronged attack on militants in South Waziristan.

60 Taliban fighters were reportedly killed in the offensive, which took the lives of five security personnel and wounded 11 others. More than 100,000 people had fled South Waziristan.
