Sonia to Congress MPs: Food prices is top priority
NDTV Correspondent, Thursday March 4, 2010, New Delhi

At a meeting with Congress Members of Parliament, the first in six months, Sonia Gandhi has said that the issue of food prices is the party's top priority.

As party president, Gandhi also backed Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on the budget and indicated that there will be no roll back on fuel pricing.

Sonia Gandhi was also critical of the Opposition's walkout from Parliament during Mukherjee's budget speech last week. Gandhi said the walkout was " not done in good taste" When Mukherjee announced the fuel price hike, all Opposition members left the Lok Sabha.  They have been demanding a rollback of the hike.  Congress allies Mamata Banerjee and DMK Chief M Karunanidhi have also said they would prefer a rollback, but have made it clear they will not quit the government over the issue. fuel price rise is an injustice to the common man at large as this incrases the prices of basic commodities.. Shame to the Govt if they are not rolling back
