PM pledges assistance to farmers to deal with drought
Press Trust of India, Saturday August 15, 2009, New Delhi

Sending out a positive message on Independence Day, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called for a new era of cooperation and harmony and pledged all possible government assistance to farmers to deal with drought and stepped up efforts to control spiralling prices.

Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort for the sixth consecutive year, Singh said the government would work for political stability and strengthening economy with an aim of marching towards "a golden future".

Asserting that the people had rejected sectarian politics and have "chosen a political arrangement which is secular", he called for "a new era of cooperation and harmony" and promised to take everyone along to create "an environment of consensus and cooperation".

"You have entrusted a big responsibility on us and we humbly accept that and will fulfill it", he said.

Talking about problems like drought, economic crisis and swine flu facing the country, he sought to allay concerns.

There was no need to panic in the face of swine flu and daily life should not be disrupted because of it, said 76-year-old Singh.

it is real unfortuante that PM says that we have long way to go, what where we doing all these 62 years 1) what steps where taken to protect law and order - police station is only for rich and politians not for common man justice, you can see the chief minster's photo instead of Ghandiji's in the police station. once a common man go to police station, they are trated like dogs, no responsibility that police are public servants. 2) We cannot even number the politicians who are regulary visiting there respective areas on a daily basis or frequently to check the problems and solve those, politican only come to peopel for vote then they think they are the king rest all slaves and carryon with their wealth increament. 3) where is accountability for the pliticians and minsiters for their tenure, where are the policies for these. 4) why a common man cannot be given 1st class treatment for the basic ailmentsm why when any politicians or the ministers only given 1st class treatement at 1st class hospital, rest are not human, where are the policies for these. will any politician or minsiter will get their tratement in the govt. hospital, can they risk their life........ 5) why are the common man is still pushed to uneducated and why the slum people are not uplifted with the proper permanent arrangement with housing, education, medical, employment, etc.. are the politicians still trying to keep them uneducated to gain vote and making them not to think further, hence giving free bees like TV, Rice, etc.. 6)why still the child labour is forced in most of even the govt. projects, in shoping malls, and in most of the common places where the politicians and minister know about this. 7)why are there poor sanitation, like heavy dust, inproper roads, inproper drain system, sewage drinking water mixing, people have to live near the sewage waterways, dangerous roads, dangerous electrical lines, why are not these attended. 8) why the educated students have to go abroad for further studies and research, why not proivde opportunity for lots research and devlopments in India itself, dont we have a knowledgable person to look at these. why Indians have to breed for other country. do we need another 62 years to look after the above basic thing, it is shameful, politicans and minister are just passing the time and wasting mother India's wealthy resources without doing any proper works and devlopment. If Mahathma was present these days, he would have felt himself worried for this state of freedom. We dont want just old leaders or leaders from the political family, we want educated experts in each and every field to take India further. with the present Political System India at 120th independence day also will remain same and the then PM will say India has long way to go...............
