Union Home Minister Amit Shah departed for Baramati on Wednesday following the tragic plane crash in which Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and five others were killed.

Ajit Pawar's wife and Rajya Sabha member Sunetra Pawar, their son Parth Pawar, and NCP(SP) MP Supriya Sule will depart for Mumbai soon.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will arrive in Baramati later in the day. The state government has also cancelled all the official events in view of the plane crash.

Minutes before the plane carrying Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar crashed, killing him and four others, it was flying towards the runway and fell 100 feet before approaching it, an eyewitness said.

The plane that Ajit Pawar died in a crash this morning, had crashed in 2023 as well. In September 2023, the private plane skid off the runway and crashed while trying to land amid heavy rain at Mumbai airport. 

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has plunged into mourning after the death of party chief and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash. Pawar and four others died in the crash earlier this morning while flying to Baramati from Mumbai. The victims included the plane's pilots and Pawar's security personnel.

Following the tragic death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were immediately informed of the incident. Both leaders also reached out to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The aircraft involved in the crash is a Learjet 45XR owned by VSR Ventures Private Limited. The company was founded and owned by VK Singh, under whose leadership VSR Ventures managed and operated the aircraft.

An aircraft carrying Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has crashed in the Pune district this morning. As per the latest reports, the plane lost control and crashed while landing at an airport in Baramati. The aircraft caught fire after the crash.

Visuals from the spot showed mangled remains of the aircraft and police, emergency and other officials on site. Locals too were seen at the crash site, where smoke billowed from the crashed plane.

According to DGCA, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was onboard along with two more personnel and 2 crew members. As per initial information, no person on board has survived the crash.
