Karunanidhi's fast political stunt: BJP
Press Trust of India, Monday April 27, 2009, New Delhi

Describing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's fast demanding ceasefire in Sri Lanka as a "political stunt", BJP on Monday said the need of the hour was to take tangible steps to solve the crisis involving Tamil civilians.

"Rather than taking tangible steps to rush relief to thousands of hapless Tamils in Sri Lanka, Congress and DMK are indulging in political theatrics," BJP spokesperson Balbir Punj said.

He said this was merely a "political stunt" and instead the Indian government should ensure the safety of the Tamil civilians who are trapped in the conflict zone.

Karunanidhi took an indefinite fast demanding ceasefire in Sri Lanka in the morning but called it off after six hours once the Island government announced that combat operations have concluded.

When the election results are out Kaliagnar will understand that he cannot fool the people of Tamilnadu any more. He is never interested in the Srilankan Tamil cause. He is the one more interested in promoting his sons, daughters and his many wives. Money and power is what he is interested like the UPA other jokers. Srilankan Tamils were butchered by the Srilankan Army and Kalaignar was only issuing statement, he has not offered them food, water, medicine or ensured safe passage. Statement and political stunts alone will not solve any problems. My dear Tamilians please understand the fact and get rid of these type of hypocrite politicians.

Hi folks, please do not eulogise and make him the Hero. He is very much in the know that after the two member team returned to India back from Srilanka that on account of the world wide condemnation coupled with the facts that UN,US, UK, EU countries questioning the methodology of tacking civil war in which innocoent tamils to the staggering 7-8,000 became victims and an equal number afftected grievously, Mr. MK has enacted the drama in collution with UPA chairperson and PM. He has no face in Tamilnadu, and this would be reflected with a resounding defeat to him and his alliance partners.
