NDTV Correspondent, Saturday September 12, 2009, Srinagar

A powerful blast took place near the central jail in Srinagar on Saturday evening.

At least three people got killed while 10 others injured in the blast, which reportedly targetted a police bus. Two policemen and one woman are those who have died in today's attack. Nine other policemen also got injured, and are said to be in a critical condition. Two of them are on respiratory support.

The explosion was so powerful that the sound of the blast could be heard across Srinagar at a time when people were rushing back home to break the Ramzan fast.

The bus, which had come from Pulwama to drop off prisoners at the Srinagar Central Jail, was on its way back when the explosion took place.

The bomb was placed in a car 50 metres outside Central Jail. Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the blast.
