Home Minister P Chidambaram's remarks on Hindu terror sparked an uproar in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. While speaking on internal security, he said at least 12 terror attacks had been foiled and apart from Islamic terrorists, Hindu militants are also resorting to violence.
After the comment, the BJP MPs promptly raised protests to which Chidambaram clarified that Islamic and Hindu terror are both wrong.
The Home Minister also said that the incidents of violence in Jammu and Kashmir has been lowest this year.
"Problems in J&K are not over; there is still infiltration, but we have given more and more duties to the state police," the Home Minister said.
He also spoke about violence in the Northeast, saying: "In the Northeast, our problems are in Assam and Manipur and both the states are being ruled by the Congress, I am not denying that."
On ULFA, he said that the government is ready to talk with the group if they formally abjure violence.
He also said that there has been no terror attack in the last one year as the government has revamped intelligence gathering.
There has been no communal riot in the last one year, he added.
Speaking on Pakistan, the Home Minister said: "As far as Pakistan is concerned we have built capacity. The adversary has not changed its attitude to India." |
