Three killed in clashes outside Mysore mosque
NDTV Correspondent, Thursday July 2, 2009, Mysore

Three people including a 14-year-old teenager were killed after clashes between two communities broke out in Mysore early on Thursday morning.

While the teenager died in police firing, two people were stabbed to death in the clashes. One of them is a 46-year-old man and the other is in his twenties.

The clashes broke out between people from two communities near a mosque under construction in Mysore's Udayagiri locality.

The police resorted to lathi-charges to disperse the crowd that had collected near the mosque.

Some clarifications, as the Collector and District Magistrate of Mysore District: The desecration was at an Arabic School and not at any Masjid. While there were fervent appeals from the Police from 7 am to 10am, the frenzied crowd did not disperse. As the issue was emotional, the Police did not attempt to use force to disperse them immediately. They gave sufficient time for them to disperse. Only when it was clear that they are not disbursing, and instead the crowd started gathering at other places also, then the Police used force to disperse the crowd; at more than 12 streets. The 13 yr old boy was killed by a sharp weapon (like a sharp edged rod) and not by the bullet. This was confirmed beyond any doubt by the forensic experts from Bangalore. The post-mortem is video-graphed. The police firing was in the air, to scare the crowd. Had the Police has not acted on time; the situation would have gone out of control with arson and large scale violence. Also the lati charge and firing were done uniformly. Wish that people make such provoking comments on Police, only if they have first hand knowledge and not on assumptions! T

I just returned back from India (Mysore) a week back & like always my native friends asked me about the conditions back home. The only answer that I gave was "PATHETIC". Well everyone understood the obvious reason behind it .... BJP. Please bear for another 4 years as things will worsen further. The moment a slaughtered pig was spotted in the mosque the people around should have understood that it is a deliberate attempt by some evil minded to spoil the carm & peace of the place. Its not the first time that such an incident has happened and again the miscreants succeeded in playing with the religious sentiments. I request all brothern (all citizens of mysore) not to react to cheap gimmicks and unite against these criminal politicians and maintain peace.
