Jyoti Basu's condition still critical
NDTV Correspondent, Tuesday January 12, 2010, Kolkata

The medical condition of veteran Marxist leader Jyoti Basu, who is battling pneumonia at a hospital in Kolkata, is showing no improvement.

According to the latest medical bulletin, Basu has developed a slight temperature and his blood and urine will be tested for infection. Hospital sources say 95-year-old Basu's blood pressure is stable.

"Basu's condition is same as on Monday morning. He's on ventilator and his blood pressure is stable but with medicine. It is true that the improvement in his condition that we expected is not there. We spoke to the AIIMS specialists but they had no additional suggestion about the treatment," said A K Maity, one of the doctors treating Basu.

Basu has been kept under full ventilation for the past few days. He was admitted to the AMRI Hospital with pneumonia on January 1.
