Tamilians protest against Lanka offensive in UK
Swati Maheshwari, Tuesday April 28, 2009, London

There have been protests the world over against the Indian government's policies on the Tamil issue. And in London, hundreds of Tamilian activists staged protests outside the Indian High Commission shouting anti-India slogans. Later, about five agitated protesters broke into the building through the main door but have now been arrested.

The anger of the British Tamilian protesters spilled over, targetting the Indian High Commission in Central London. In the broken window panes that lay scattered all around, was the evidence of the violence wrecked by hundreds of protesters who gathered outside.

Before the police  arrived, 5 protesters managed to force their way into the High Commission. They've now been arrested, but only after ensuring that the High Commission had to be shut for Tuesday.

"All the people around the world, all the Tamils are really really enraged because they are
not doing anything so far. Actually they started the protest peacefully and as far as they didn't come out and asked what was going on, what do we have to do. I think the people, the students, were so angry - they couldn't control themselves," says Sorubina, a Tamil Protester.

Thousands of British Tamilians have been protesting outside the Houses of Parliament in London for weeks now, urging the British Government to intervene to call for a ceasefire in Sri Lanka.

This is not the first time that they have targetted the Indian High Commission in London. They had knocked down the Nehru bust standing outside the High Commission building 3 weeks ago.

The police say that the situation is still very tense. Hundreds of protesters gathered outside are still shouting angry slogans against the Congress government for not doing enough to protect the civilians caught in the crossfire. They are venting their anger at all Indian targets including the Indian media.

hello Mr.Royster, your comment shows absolute innocence in this issue.its not that tamilians gone to srilanka and started war. There are Two types of tamilians in srilanka.1.ethnic tamils and 2.tamilians from india who settled there.Ethnic tamilians have all the rights like singhales because they are also natives of the island.LTTE not started the war on one fine morning, tamilians came across all the pain and tortures done by srilankan army and government, then only they have decided to lift the arms to save their people. You cant understand our pain ...because you never come across these kind of attrocities in your life...

Deport where Royster. Spoken like a true genius with perfect answers. It is a not a South only thing. When Indo Pak war happened people in Calcutta protested against Pakistani aggression in East Bengal. I am not an LTTE sympathiser. They need to go. But Sri Lankan genocide of Tamilian civilians is not the answer to that. Tamilians are soft people by nature. If we fight a war just imagine how much of discrimination took place before they took arms. Once the LTTE is gone things are back to square 1. A deserted island would be perfect for morons like you who know it all.
