Now, racial attacks on Indians in Canada
NDTV Correspondent, Wednesday June 10, 2009, Canada
After Australia there are now reports of attacks on Indians in Canada. Four Canadians were charged with racial attack on Indians.

The incident took place in Langley on the outskirts on Vancouver.

The Canadian police say the Canadian attackers stormed into a tennis court where Indians were playing. Police have arrested the assailants who had run away with the belonging of the victims.

Meanwhile, after a spate of attacks on Indian students in Australia, Indian students are asking for greater police protection following a second night of protests in Sydney late Tuesday night.

About 70 students blocked off a street in the western Sydney suburb of Harris Park late on Tuesday night. Students claim the police are still not doing enough to protect them.

Two Australian men have been arrested; one of them has been charged with being in possession of a weapon and will appear at a court later this month.

Meanwhile, the Australian police has gone on damage control mode. They have announced a major crackdown on 'street robberies' across Melbourne.

How do we know if the attack at Langley had racial motivations and was not just a crime of opportunity?

Canada has no racism whatsoever...atleast I haven't come accross anything even close to it....I have seen people having dislikes and rude behaviour but more on account of their own individual personalities than anything else. It is always easy to pin the wrong attributes towards the differences amongst people, that could be anything race, religion or color. Let a bad person just be bad not bad because of his color or anythings else. Isn't this true in india and everywhere else we prefer the similiar kind because we are familiar with it and are more comfortable and not because we are racists or something else. In case of different environment everyone has to work extra hard to project a positive image. If a sweaty rude guy smelling of his food was to push through the queue at a newsstand or elsewhere he is sure to raise some eyebrows and not on account of his race or color. So lets stop blaming everything that happens abroad on race and all the crime that happens in the home country as just crime.
