Four days after getting bail, Nooriya Haveliwala, accused of drunk-driving and killing two people, was released on Sunday from the Byculla women's jail.

Nooriya (27), a beautician by profession, had tested positive for alcohol and drugs.

A metropolitan magistrate had on Wednesday granted Nooriya bail on a surety of Rs 15,000 after the police failed to file the charge sheet in the case within the stipulated 60-day period.

"Nooriya was released today after all the formalities were completed," her lawyer Renuka Lazmeshwar said.

As per the law, police have to file a charge sheet within 60 days from the day of the arrest, failing which the accused is entitled to bail, Laxmeshwar said.

On January 30 this year Nooriya was arrested for allegedly killing two people, including a police constable while driving her car, allegedly under the influence of alcohol. (Read: January 30 - Drunk woman driver kills two in Mumbai)

Haweliwala was drunk when she drove her SUV into a police checkpost at Marine Lines on January 30. A policeman and a motorcyclist were killed. She has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Nooriya was on her way home to Colaba from a friend's house in Breach Candy when she lost control of her car. The police later revealed that she had tested positive for drugs. (Read: February 10 - Mumbai's drunk driver was also on drugs)
