'When Will Achhe Din Come for Farmers?' Rahul Gandhi's Jibe at PM Modi

Rahul Gandhi has accused the Centre of neglecting farmers in the country.

Bargarh, Odisha: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi today took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that farmers in the country are still waiting for his promise of "achhe din" or days of prosperity to come true, the Congress leader is in Odisha and took part in a pro-farmer march in the state.

Achhe Din was promised by PM Modi in the election campaign of the 2014 general elections.

"When will the achche din come for the farmers? He (PM Modi) has made promises. He is good at making promises, probably number one. But he failed to fulfil even one," said Mr Gandhi.

He emphasised that farmer suicides were on the rise, as the BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government was neglecting them. The 45-year-old leader, argued that Congress is in favour of giving compensation at market rates to farmers for their land.

Mr Gandhi said, "BJP-led NDA seeks to snatch away precious land from poor farmers and dislodge them without seeking their views. The Centre wants to hand over peasants' land to corporates."

Last month, the Centre allowed the land ordinance to lapse as they were facing stiff all-round resistance. The NDA decided not to re-promulgate it for the fourth time.

Speaking to reporters while launching the 'Save Farmer March' at Debahal, the Congress Vice-President also repeated the 'Suit Boot Ki Sarkar' jibe at PM Modi, saying that the government works for the interests of only "two-three handpicked" corporate people.

The Congress leader also met family members of Sanand Kathar, a farmer who committed suicide due to loss of crops. He is on a two-day visit to the state.
