Five months into the marriage, Twisha Sharma had been pleading with her mother that she wanted to leave her husband's home in Bhopal and come back to her maternal home in Noida. By the time her tickets were booked, she was dead.

"Galat ho gaya (It went wrong)," Twisha Sharma's father Navnidhi Sharma told NDTV, adding, "she was being tortured continuously".

Twisha Sharma met Samarth Singh on a dating app in 2024. Married a year later, in December 2025. Earlier this month, on May 12, Twisha was found dead at her in-laws' home in Bhopal. She was set to return home on May 15.

Giribala Singh, a retired judge, along with her son, Samarth Singh, has been named as accused in the young woman's death by suicide.

Twisha and Samarth met on a dating app in 2024 and married a year later in December 2025. Twisha died within five months of marriage, with her family accusing her in-laws of dowry harassment.

In the death case of Twisha Sharma, a lookout circular has been issued agains her husband and lawyer Samarth Singh. The police took this step amid fears that he could flee the country. 

As Samarth Singh remains at large, six special teams have been formed to track him down and ensure his arrest. A reward of Rs 10,000 has also been announced for information leading to his capture.

Twisha Sharma's father, Navnidhi Sharma, on Tuesday alleged that the family of the accused in his daughter's death case was influential and capable of exerting pressure on the system, while asserting that his grieving family was being subjected to "continuous public attacks and narratives".

Issuing a detailed public statement, Navnidhi Sharma said his family had repeatedly expressed apprehensions before authorities regarding the influence allegedly wielded by persons connected with Twisha's mother-in-law and retired judge Giribala Singh's family.

"From the very first day, our family has consistently expressed apprehension before authorities that the accused persons connected with the Giribala Singh family are highly influential and capable of exerting pressure upon the system, public opinion, and investigation machinery," he said.

He further stated that subsequent developments in the case had only strengthened those fears.

"With a shattered heart, unbearable pain, and an unending sense of loss, I, the father of late Twisha Sharma, am constrained to issue this public statement in the larger interest of justice, fairness, and protection of the dignity of my deceased daughter, who is no longer alive to defend herself against the continuous public attacks and narratives being circulated by the accused side," Sharma said in statement.

Retired judge Giribala Singh, the mother-in-law of deceased Twisha Sharma, has strongly refuted allegations levelled against her family in connection with the high-profile death case, claiming that facts were being "misconstrued" and demanding a thorough probe into several aspects, including chats, financial transactions and a mysterious car key recovered from Twisha's belongings.

Speaking to IANS, Giribala Singh said the family had made every effort to save Twisha and maintain cordial relations with her.

"The daughter who was in our house, our daughter-in-law, whom we treated with great respect. We tried till the very last moment to save her life and keep her with us. But the way things are being misconstrued is completely wrong," she said.

She added that CCTV footage from the house could help establish the sequence of events.

"It is a good thing that there are CCTV cameras in the house. Until we saw it ourselves, we had no access to that area because it was on the terrace," she said.

Responding to allegations surrounding Twisha's pregnancy and claims made in chats allegedly recovered during the investigation, Singh questioned the authenticity and interpretation of the messages.

Samarth Singh's educational profile includes B.A. LL.B. (Hons) from NLSIU Bangalore and an exchange programme at Belgium's Ghent University.

The father claimed that her 33-year-old daughter was being subjected to various forms of abuse, including physical abuse.

WhatsApp chats between Twisha and her mother have revealed that she felt "trapped" in an unhappy marriage and faced mental torure and dowry harassment by her in-laws.

"I deeply regret not having come sooner," Rekha Sharma, Twisha's mother, said, fighting back tears.

The investigation into the death of model and actress Twisha Sharma, daughter-in-law of retired Principal District and Sessions Judge Giribala Singh, has come under serious scrutiny after a lapse emerged from the post-mortem proceedings at AIIMS Bhopal.

According to the post-mortem report, the investigating officer did not produce the belt allegedly used for hanging before the doctors during the examination. As a result, the medical team could not scientifically compare the alleged hanging instrument with the ligature marks found on the woman's neck. The woman's family has maintained that this lapse has damaged the evidentiary value of a critical piece of material evidence.

Twisha had worked in the Telugu film Mugguru Monagallu (2021) and the Hindi film Zara Sambhal Kay (2018) before venturing into the corporate world. She had won the title of Miss Pune during her modelling days.

Twisha's Mugguru Monagallu co-star Dheekshithh Shetty, who gained prominence recently for starring opposite actor Rashmika Mandanna in The Girlfriend (2025), expressed shock over her sudden death.

An unsettling lapse on the police's part has come forward in the Twisha Sharma death probe, as calls for justice in the case span from Delhi to Bhopal and across the country. According to AIIMS Bhopal's post-mortem report, the belt allegedly used by the Noida woman to hang herself at her Bhopal matrimonial home was not brought by the investigating officer for the autopsy.

The mother-in-law of Twisha Sharma, Giribala Singh, has made a series of claims about the 33-year-old's alleged drug use, mental health and family background, as police investigate Sharma's death in Bhopal as a suspected dowry case. 

"His attitude from the very beginning showed a criminal mindset. He was a man who, after getting angry for some reason during their honeymoon, actually pushed his wife at the airport. Twisha cried, called her brother, and told him she had made a wrong decision. Her brother told her, 'No, sometimes a man gets a little impulsive... ignore that,'" Twisha's father said.

"We should not have ignored it. Actually, daughters ignore a lot of things to save their marriage and stand by their decision. It was a case like that. But we finally understood that this marriage could not move forward. We were ready to bring her back; we had even booked her ticket [for May 15th]. But she couldn't make it to that date... she was not able to stay alive," he added.

A video has surfaced showing Twisha Sharma climbing the staircase at her marital home in Bhopal shortly before her death. The footage also captures at least three men, including her husband Samarth Singh, administering two failed CPR attempts before carrying her body down the stairs to a lower floor. Twisha's mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, appears in the video as well.

The video obtained by NDTV shows Twisha heading towards the terrace of the house in the Katara Hills area. Twisha, 33, was found dead at her husband's house on May 12. Samarth Singh, a lawyer, is currently on the run.

The Bhopal District Court has rejected bail plea of Twisha Sharma's husband Samarth Singh.

Speaking to NDTV, Twisha’s sister Priyanka Sharma alleged that Twisha was under immense mental torture. She revealed that after the marriage, Twisha's father transferred money and purchased shares for her. However, Samarth reportedly pressured Twisha to open a joint account and transfer the assets to his name. Priyanka added that she met Twisha in March, and the family had even booked a ticket for her to return on May 15th.

Days after 33-year-old Twisha Sharma was found dead at her marital home in Bhopal, her cousin Meenakshi shared with NDTV some of her last messages. Twisha was discovered hanging at her husband Samarth Singh's house in Bhopal's Katara Hills area on May 12. Samarth, a lawyer, is currently on the run. Police have registered a case of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide against him and his mother, Giribala Singh, a retired judge. 

Bhopal Police have officially announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 for any information leading to Samarth Singh’s arrest.

Twisha was set to return to her Noida home three days later, on May 15, her maternal uncle, Saurabh Sharma, told NDTV.

The Bhopal District Court has commenced the hearing on the anticipatory bail application filed by advocate Samarth Singh, a prime accused in the tragic dowry death case of his wife, Twisha Sharma.

The matter is currently underway before the 10th Additional Sessions Judge, Pallavi Dwivedi. Legal counsels from both sides, representing Samarth Singh and the victim’s family, are present.

Samarth Singh, husband of Twisha Sharma, is currently on the run. Bhopal Police will write to the concerned authorities seeking suspension of Samarth Singh's passport.

Samarth allegedly accused Twisha of carrying an illegitimate child. The MBA graduate repeatedly asked her mother, "How am I supposed to live with him?"

"Mujhe pooch raha hai vo kiska bacha tha, aur main ignore karu??? Kaisi aurat ho aap. Ye apne ghatiya pane ki har limit cross kar ke baitha hai. (He is asking me whose child it was and you expect me to just ignore it? What kind of woman are you! He has crossed every limit)," she wrote to her mother in a series of messages sent on Saturday (May 9) afternoon.

She also accused her husband of pretending to be a good man in front of his mother while spewing venom in private.

"Mummy yaha par mai bas pagal ho jaungi. Mujhse nahi ho pa raha ab ye sab (Mom, I'm going to go crazy here. I just can't take this anymore)," she wrote.

"Maa aap mujhe yaha se lene aajao kal please (Please come, and pick me up from here tomorrow)," Twisha pleaded to her mother in a WhatsApp text sent on May 7. She stated that it looked as though her husband did not need her anymore and that he had been "tolerating (her) for a year."

Twisha sounded clueless about what she had done to 'disappoint her husband' and asked her mother to come alone.

In a series of texts sent to her mother on April 30, Twisha said her life has become a living hell.

"Mera jeevan narak ho gaya hai mummy," she wrote in another message.

"Kyu bheja mujhe yaha. Ye yaha baat hi nahi kar raha hai (Why did you send me to Bhopal? He isn't talking to me)," she wrote to her mother.

"Bhopal bula kar phir se sab natak (He called me to Bhopal only to stage the same old drama all over again)," she added, indicating that there were ongoing issues between the couple.

In a WhatsApp chat dated May 7, Twisha spoke about living with anxiety and the will to do something with her life.

"I have been under anxiety because I am sitting at home. I want to do something with my life. Shaadi makes your family, but you cannot stop working on yourself, for yourself regardless where you are," she wrote.

The 33-year-old MBA graduate warned a friend against rushing into marriage and advised her friend to think through before getting married.

"Shaadi ki khujli me shaadi mat karna. Soch samaj kar aage badhna. Filhal bas yahi kahungi. Call you sometime soon. (Don't rush into marriage just out of an urge to get married. Move ahead only after thinking it through carefully. For now, that's all I'd say.) 

In an Instagram chat with a friend, Twisha appeared distressed.

"I am trapped bro. Bas tu mat phasna. (You just make sure you don't get stuck.) Can't talk much. I will call when the time is right," she wrote.

Her friend replied: "I am worried about you. I love you so much."

According to the short post-mortem report, Twisha died due to "antemortem hanging by ligature," indicating she was alive when hanged. The report also mentions "multiple antemortem injuries" (wounds, bruises before death) over other parts of the body.

Twisha medically terminated her pregnancy a week before her death, the report revealed.

May 12: Twisha Sharma called her mother at 10:05 pm and detailed on the harassment she was subject to at her husband's home in Bhopal.

"During the conversation, she abruptly disconnected the call after her husband entered the room," said Twisha's brother, Major Harshit Sharma, an officer in the Indian Army. "Repeated attempts were thereafter made by our family to contact her, Samarth, and her mother-in-law Giribala Singh, but no one responded," he added.

Ten minutes later, at 10:15 pm, Giribala Singh answered the call. Twisha's family requested her to check on her daughter immediately.

Another five minutes later, at 10:20 pm, the family was informed that Twisha was "not breathing."

According to an unverified LinkedIn profile, Twisha was an "dynamic professional" with experience as a Marketing Manager in the restaurant industry.

She acted in advertisements and regional films, and also stepped into filmmaking.

"I have also explored the performing arts, learning from industry experts and taking on lead roles in ads and regional films. Additionally, I have ventured into the world of filmmaking, gaining valuable insights," the profile mentioned.
