Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today spoke in the Rajya Sabha on the missing coal files relating to the allocation of coal blocks. Here are the highlights:
The govt is making all efforts to retrieve all papers requisitioned by the CBI
Majority of papers have been submitted to the CBI
Government has nothing to hide- more than 2000 pages of documentation have been already handed over to CBI
Our intention of facilitating the investigation cannot be questioned. Govt has provided full support to CAG and later CBI
Govt will carry out a thorough investigation and ensure that the guilty are brought to book
The ongoing investigation by the CBI is closely being monitored by the Supreme Court
The govt shall do its best to find and locate the papers and will hand over the papers to CBI within the stipulated time frame as directed by Supreme Court
If the govt is unable to locate some of those papers, than as directed by the Supreme Court, a report will be filed with the CBI
The government shall follow the directions of the Supreme Court in letter and spirit
Request the honourable members of Parliament not to draw hasty conclusions
