About Kendrapara

 

The Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency consists of Salipur, Mahanga, Patkura, Kendrapara, Aul, Rajanagar and Mahakalapada assembly segments. The Kendrapara assembly seat is reserved for candidates belonging to scheduled caste category. The constituency will go to polls on April 29 in the fourth phase along with Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha constituencies in the eastern State, Odisha.

The Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency is witnessing famous Odia actor turned politician Anubhav Mohanty and two-time MP Baijayant Panda contesting for the seat.

In the 2014 general election, Baijayanta Panda, popularly known as Jay Panda, won the Kendrapara for a second term by a margin of 209300 votes. He had defeated Congress' Dharanidhar Nayak, who is a key contender this time as well.

Among other contestants are Srikanta Samal (Krupaa Party), Rabindra Nath Behera (Samajwadi Party), Santosh Kumar Das (Independent) and Santosh Kumar Patra (Independent).

Nityanand Kanungo, one of the prominent politicians in Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's cabinet, was the first MP of this constituency. He also served as the Governor of Gujarat and Bihar.

Bijayanand Patnaik, popularly known as Biju Patnaik, had represented the Kendrapara constituency in the Lok Sabha in 1977, 1980 and 1984 as a Janata Party candidate.

BJD bastion, Kendrapara will see 7 candidates contesting this time.

The poll results will be declared on May 23.
