Live : Jagatsinghpur Assembly Election 2023

The Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha constituency consists of Tirtol, Niali, Paradeep, Balikuda, Erasama, Jagatsinghpur, Kakatpur and Nimapara assembly seats. The Tirtol and Kakatpur assembly seats are reserved for candidates belonging to scheduled caste candidates. The Jagatsinghpur constituency will vote on April 29 in the fourth phase of 17th Lok Sabha polls.

The constituency witnessed 75.54%voter turnout in 2014 general election.

After the delimitation of Parliamentary Constituencies and Legislative Assembly Constituencies in 2008, Jagatsinghpur has witnessed CPI and Biju Janata Dal (BJD)'s victory in 2009 and 2014.

Bibhu Prasad Tarai, who was the MP from Jagatsinghpur constituency in 2009, has been fielded by BJP this time. In 2009 he had contested as a CPI candidate backed by BJD. He was later expelled over alleged anti-party activities following which he had joined the Congress ahead of the 2014 general elections. Mr Tarai lost the elections as a Congress candidate in 2014 from Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha seat.

BJD is fielding Rajashree Mallick as its MP candidate instead of the sitting MP Kulamani Samal. The government had announced 33% reservation for women candidates in the Lok Sabha seats.

Another female contestant in fray is Pratima Mallick backed by Congress.

Among other contenders are Sasmita Das (Independent), Peeyuush Das (Ambedkarite Party of India), Dipak Kumar Das (Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha), Jagannath Megh (Jai Prakash Janata Dal), Anil Kumar Behera (Freethought Party of India) and Bibhuti Bhusan Majhi (Bahujan Samaj Party).
