The Balasore Lok Sabha constituency will go to polls on April 29. In the fourth phase of 2019 general election, Balasore will vote along with Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur lok sabha constituencies in Odisha. The Balasore constituency consists of Badasahi, Jaleswar, Bhograi, Basta, Balasore, Remuna and Nilgiri assembly segments. The Badasahi and Remuna seats are reserved for the candidates belonging to scheduled caste category.

In the 2014 general election voter turnout was 76.84% in the Balasore constituency.

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) won the Balasore seat in 2014 and Rabindra Kumar Jena was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha from this constituency. Aiming for a second consecutive term, the BJD is fielding the sitting MP this time as well. Mr Jena won the election by a margin of 141825 defeating BJP's Pratap Chandra Sarangi.

BJP has represented the Balasore constituency in Parliament in 12th, 13th and 14th Lok Sabha. BJP is nominating Pratap Chandra Sarangi as MP candidate for the Balasore constituency this time as well.

Rabindra Kumar Jena had succeeded Srikant Kumar Jena, Congress leader and a former Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Tourism, in the last election.

Congress' Navajyoti Patnaik will contest the election.

TMC has given ticket to Haji Sk Abdul Istar.

12 candidates are in fray for the Balasore seat, 5 among which have filed their nomination as independent candidate.

Poll results for the 17th Lok Sabha will be released on April 23.
