About Bolangir

One of the 21 Lok Sabha constituencies in Odisha, the Bolangir, went to polls on April 18. 72.42 per cent voter turnout was recorded this time in Bolangir. The Bolangir Lok Sabha constituency consists of Birmaharajpur, Sonepur, Loisingha, Patnagarh, Balangir, Titlagarh and Kantabanji assembly seats. The Birmaharajpur and Loisingha seats are reserved for candidates belonging to scheduled caste category.

Voting in Bolangir was held alongside four other constituencies in Odisha which includes Bargarh, Sundargarh, Kandhamal and Aska.

Three-time MP Sangeeta Kumari Deo will contest against two-time MP Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo. Kalikesh is the sitting MP of Bolangir and is a leader of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) party.

Sangeeta Kumari Deo is contesting with a BJP ticket.

In 2014, Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo had won the seat by a margin of 104299 votes. He had defeated Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo and retained the Bolangir seat for the second time. In 2014, the voter turnout was 74.92%.

A total of 8 candidates are in fray for the Bolangir seat.

Congress has nominated Samarendra Mishra as its MP candidate.

Among regional parties contesting in the election are Ambedkarite Party of India, Bahujan Mukti Party and SUCI (Communist).

One contestant has filed the nomination as an independent candidate.
