Live : Koraput Assembly Election 2023

Koraput Lok Sabha constituency comprises-Gunupur, Bissam Cuttack, Rayagada, Lakshmipur, jeypore, Koraput and Pottangi segments-all of which are reserved for scheduled caste and scheduled tribe except the Jeypore seat. Koraput will vote on April 11, in the first phase of 2019 general election.

This time Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has fielded Kausalya Hikaka, the wife of sitting MP Jhina Hikaka. BJD had won the seat, in 2014, by a margin of 19 thousand votes. Jhina Hikaka had succeeded BJD's Jayaram Pangi who will be contesting from the Koraput seat, this time as well, but with a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket.

Damodar Sobor of CPI (ML) Liberation party and Rajendra Kendruka of CPI (ML) Redstar party will contest from the seat.

For contesting the general election 2019, Congress has given ticket to Saptagiri Ulaka.

In the 16th Lok Sabha election, more than 33 thousand votes were given under NOTA option. A total of 9,89,444 voters had franchised their options in 2014 election.

Odisha's former Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang was elected to the Lok Sabha from this constituency consecutively for eight terms from 1972 to 1998. He was again elected from the same seat in 2004. In 1999 Hema Gamang, wife of Giridhar Gamang represented the seat in the Lok Sabha.

Jagannath Rao, who had won the Berhampur constituency seat for five consecutive terms, had also won the Koraput seat in 1957.
