Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency, one of the total 17 Lok Sabha segments in Odisha state, goes to the polls in the third phase of general elections 2019 on April 27.

About Bhubaneswar

In the 2014 General Elections, Prasanna Kumar Patasani from Biju Janata Dal was elected from Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha Constituency seat with 4,39,252 votes. His closest opponent was Prithviraj Harichandan from Bharatiya Janata Party. He received 2,49,775 votes. 

In the General Elections of 2009, Prasanna Kumar Patasani from BJD won the Bhubaneswar Constituency. He received 4,00,472 votes. Santosh Mohanty from Indian National Congress was his opponent with 1,47,712 votes. 

In 1971 General Elections, Chintamani Panigrahi from Congress won the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha Constituency seat. In 1977 General Elections, Sivaji Patnaik from CPI (M) won the Bhubaneswar Constituency seat. 

In 1980 and 1984 General Elections, Chintamani Panigrahi from Congress was again elected from the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha Constituency. In 1989 and 1991, Sivaji Patnaik from CPI (M) won the Bhubaneswar constituency. 

 

In elections of 1996, Soumya Ranjan Patnaik from Congress won the seat. From 1998 General Elections to 2014, Prasanna Kumar Patasani from Biju Janata Dal had had a stronghold on the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha Constituency. 

For the General Elections of 2019, the candidates contesting are Arup Mohan Patnaik from Biju Janata Dal, Janardan Pati from Communist Party of India (M), Subhranshu Sekhar Padhi from All Indian Trinamool Congress, Lalita Kumar Nayak from Bahujan Samaj Party, Pramila Behera from CPI (M) Red star, Biswanath Rout from Krupaa Party Biswanath Ramchandra from Freethought Party of India and Bhakta Sekhar Ray from Kalinga Sena. There are 5 Independent Candidates Jayant Kumar Das, Madhu Sudan Yadav, Mahesh Chandra Sethi, Sanjaya Kumar Sahoo and Susil Kumar Jena. 

After the delimitation in 2008, the assembly segments for Bhubaneswar Constituency are Jayadev, Bhubaneswar Central (Madhya), Bhubaneswar North (Uttar), Ekamra-Bhubaneswar, Jatni, Begunia and Kurda.
