In the General Elections of 2014, Dhenkanal Lok Sabha Constituency seat was won by Tathagata Satpathy from Biju Janata Dal. He won 4,53,277 votes. His closest opponent was Rudra Narayan Pany from Bharatiya Janata Party. He won 3,15,937 votes. 

In the General Elections of 2009, Dhenkanal Lok Sabha Constituency seat was won by Tathagata Satpathy from Biju Janata Dal who received 3,98,568 votes. His opponent was Chandra Shekhar Tripathi from INC who won 2,11,981 votes. 

In 1971 General Elections, Dhenkanal Lok Sabha Constituency was won by Devendra Satapathy on a ticket from Indian National Congress. In 1977, he was re-elected but on a ticket from Bharatiya Lok Dal. 

In 1980 and 1984 General Elections, Kamakhya Prasad Singh Deo from Indian National Congress was elected from the Dhenkanal seat. In 1989 Lok Sabha Elections, Bhajaman Behara from Janata Dal was elected from the Dhenkanal Lok Sabha Constituency. 

In 1991 and 1996 Lok Sabha elections, Kamakhya Prasad Singh Deo from Indian National Congress dominated the Dhenkanal Lok Sabha Constituency. In 1998 General Elections, Tathagata Satpathy from BJD won the Dhenkanal seat. In 1999 General Elections, Kamakhya Prasad Singh Deo from INC won the seat. 

From 2004 to 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Tathagata Satpathy has had a stronghold over the Dhenkanal Lok Sabha Constituency. 

For the General Elections of 2019 for the Dhenkanal Lok Sabha Constituency, candidates are Mahesh Sahoo from Biju Janata Dal, Rudra Narayan Pany from Bharatiya Janata Party and Raja Kamakhya Prasad Singh De from Congress. 

After the delimitation of Dhenkanal Lok Sabha Constituency in 2008, the assembly segments include Dhenkanal, Parjanga, Kamakshyanagar, Hindol, Angul, Talcher and Pallahara.
