US national David Headley, arrested by the FBI for plotting a major terror attack in India at Lashkar-e-Toiba's behest, visited Mumbai at least four times, police sources have said.

Headley stayed in Mumbai and also met Lashkar operative Tahawar Hussein Rana.

He made the visit between July 2007 and 2009, sources have said. He stayed in South Mumbai's Breach Candy area. The area is very close to the US Consulate and Malabar Hills.

The FBI held Headley and Rana in October for plotting terror attack in India.

Headley, a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative held by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as per sources, visited Mumbai four times.

The US government had earlier said that Rana and Headley had picked out a military site in Delhi. The charges were filed as Rana appeared at a bond hearing at the federal court in Chicago.

According to information filed by a prosecution in court, Tahawwur Rana and David Headley - the Chicago businessmen who have been linked to a plot to attack the Danish newspaper that published controversial cartoons about the Prophet Muhammad also discussed the possibility of attacking the National Defence College in New Delhi.

The US government has recorded conversations of Headley, and Rana - a Canadian national who was born in Pakistan, discussing the possibility of an attack on the NDC, which provides training to top Defence and Civil Services officers in national and international security.
