2010 Games: Kalmadi's total surrender
Barkha Dutt, Thursday October 22, 2009, New Delhi

After a lot of tough talking, Suresh Kalmadi seems ready to make peace with the international organisers of the Commonwealth Games. In fact, Kalmadi, who is in charge of getting Delhi in shape for the Games, has dropped both the conditions he had earlier declared non-negotiable.

Speaking to NDTV's Barkha Dutt, Kalmadi says Mike Hooper, earlier described by him as "useless" and an "impediment", is no longer a pariah. "Well, he should be helpful to us you see that is the main thing. And if he promises to be helpful to us I am sure I can give him another try," offers Kalmadi, adding that it is up to Mike Fennell to decide Hooper's fate.  Fennell is the President of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF). He has already said he will not sack Hooper, the CEO of the Federation.

The other bone of contention for Kalmadi was that an independent committee would be set up to review Delhi's progress in the Games. Last week, that was unacceptable to him. Now, he says, "We have not opposed the independent body coming. We have only said that combine it with the Co-ordination Commission which will be visiting this December so that there is no duplication or complication of authority. But whatever Mike Fennell wants we should do it."

International organisers led by Fennell have said publicly that they are worried about Delhi being behind schedule in its preparations for the Games. In a bitter war of words last week, Hooper announced that describing Delhi as unprepared "is the understatement of the year".

Knowing the shamefull track of beurocracy and shameless list of politicians in our country, I am more than sure that we are going to fail, again. Nothing new for us but the exposure will be new. The shame that used to stay among us, will now be seen in the whole world. So what? I am sure, like always, this time also we will find some reasonable excuse to hide our incapabilities and failures. Mr.Kalmadi can suggest some, or maybe he had already found one? Heaven will not fall! Nothing will happen! This will be just another shame that people will forget in years to come. About India? who cares? Lets fill our pockets and live a luxuries life. Lets make some more foreign trips and appreciate their success, their culture. Lets preach others but never learn. Our ego is so big, our proud is so strong that we will never learn. Earlier, I had some hope from the few good men we had by mistake. But what they can do? What Dr.Manmohan Singh can do? What the face youth, Mr.Rahul Gandhi can do? What Dr.Kalam can do? What Mr.Narayanmurthy can do? What Mr.Sreedharan can do? They all have their own limitations. If all these big guys are so helpless then who the hell are we to complain? Lets face it and welcome another failure. And digest it! Oh! a tear just fell from my eye, not sure why? May be my skin is not that thick yet? Jai Hind

Mr.Kalmadi,is going to make all Indian's hang their heads down in shame, with his unprofessional conduct. I Guess, its high time he stepped down from his post and let someone more suitable take his place. Corruption, lethargy, lack of planning and perfection...it all shows in this our preparation for the Commonwealth Games. If we cannot be prepared for these games, we can bid goodbye to all such International events in the future.....Mr.P.M, we would appreciate if you can kick Mr.K out...and get some one like Mr.PC to take reins and handle such events! Thank you
