'Responsible' parenting
Thursday August 6, 2009
"You cannot take the kids with you, 'Magadheera' is an adults only film, "said the security guard at Inox multiplex in Hyderabad. "Oh, but isn't it just a semi-periodical fantasy film that children can watch," asked Uma, my wife. As Tejaswini, our 6-year-old daughter and our friend Radha's sons, Bhargav and Pranav looked disappointed that they were going to be shunted out, came the solution from the same guard. I as the parent/guardian just had to give an undertaking that I take "responsibility for any consequences arising out of children below 18 watching the film". As I filled in the sheet, giving my name and phone number, I noticed ten others had made a similar promise for getting children to watch 'Magadheera' on Sunday. For every law, there is a way to beat the law.

The Megastar is back!
Wednesday July 22, 2009
Chiranjeevi fans have reason to rejoice. Next week, his son Ram Charan's second film 'Magadheera' will release, with Chiranjeevi in a blink-and-you-will-miss-him role. Chiru will shake a leg for just 20 seconds in a remix of his hit item number 'Bangara Kodi Petta' from his 1992 superhit 'Gharana Mogudu'. For the record, if you are willing to treat this very special appearance as a film role, 'Magadheera' will be Chiru's 149th film. His last release was 'Sankardada Zindabad', the Telugu remake of 'Lage Raho Munnabhai'.

Naidu, first citizen of Hyderabad?
Monday July 20, 2009
Last week, my aunt who now stays in Coimbatore had come visiting. Seetha Maami is extremely cued into political news, and having lived in Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad for the better part of her life, Andhra politics has a special place in her heart. "Poor Chandrababu did not manage it even this time," she rued. Knowing her liking for Naidu, I teased, "Why do you call him 'poor'?"
