The upcoming Bollywood film Raazi is generating interest at various levels. On the sidelines of the buzz about lead actress Alia Bhatt's performance is excitement about the discovery that she co-stars, for the first time ever, with her mother Soni Razdan, who also plays her mother on screen. Ever since the release of the trailer of Raazi, which went viral and already has hit over 16 million views, Alia Bhatt and other actors have been receiving great praises for their performances. Movie goers can't wait for the release of the film, which will be hitting the theatres on May 11.
While in the trailer we didn't get to see much of Soni Razdan, she is said to be playing a pivotal role in the film. Ms Razdan has made only limited appearances in films between 2000-2018 - you might remember her from Monsoon Wedding - but she's an actress of repute, with her best-known work in the arthouse cinema of the 80s and 90s. But more about that later.
Alia Bhatt's recent tweet where she calls her mother "the best actor" has all her fans going aww. We agree it's sweet and adorable.

Just yesterday, Alia and Sonia were seen having a pampering session at the parlour.

Alia Bhatt at the parlour
Being the star that Alia is, with numerous Bollywood projects in the pipeline, we are sure getting quality time with her is not easy, not even for Soni Razdan. In a post she shared on her unverified Instagram account, Ms Razdan expressed her joy for being able to hang out with her daughter. The caption read, "The only way I get to meet my baby these days! Hanging out while she's at the parlour."
British-born Soni Razdan has been busy with her upcoming Bollywood projects too. She will be seen with husband Mahesh Bhatt on the screen for the first time in award winning filmmaker Sanjoy Nag's Yours Truly. The shooting for the film has wrapped up and it's said to be a beautiful story of a woman and her journey of finding love in the most unexpected places.
It doesn't take a genius to see which parent Alia (dad is Mahesh Bhatt) looks like.
Not only is Alia Bhatt a junior edition of her mother, it's also easy to see that she's inherited Soni Razdan's laidback and fun style.
This could be Alia a couple of decades on:
Ms Razdan wears Masaba with as much aplomb as her twentysomething daughter:
Soni Razdan's long and acclaimed acting career began in theatre - one of her earliest successes was Satyadev Dubey's Bund Darvaze - moving on to TV shows and feature films before donning the hat of a film director. Soni Razdan made her screen debut in Aparna Sen's 36 Chowringhee Lane in 1981. In TV shows, her role in Buniyaad on Doordarshan in 1986 (directed by Ramesh Sippy) was well-received and she soon became a familiar face. She also starred in arthouse dramas such as Mandi, Party, Trikaal and Saaransh with noted actors of that time such as Om Puri, Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil, Naseeruddin Shah among others. Her more recent appearances include Page 3, Patiala House, Love Breakups Zindagi and now, Raazi.
We can't wait to see Soni Razdan and Alia Bhatt kill it on screen together.
