Hollywood is halfway through its awards season, with the recently concluded Screen Actors' Guild Awards in Los Angeles. And even though the in-solidarity black seems to be rapidly fading away - remember how the Critics' Choice Awards was a cornucopia of colour? - the spirit of solidarity and celebrating women's empowerment lives on. From Kristen Bell's pointed dig at US First Lady Melania Trump over cyber-bullying while talking about being the first host or 'first lady' of the SAG awards, to the all-women presenters, to Nicole Kidman tearing up while talking about roles for women over 40 in Hollywood, to actress Rosanna Arquette being honoured for going public with her accusations against Harvey Weinstein, which was the beginning of a movement that led to this watershed moment in Hollywood... the focus was decidedly on the women of Hollywood.
And yes, of course, amid all the cheering, adrenaline, celebration and fist-pumping, there was gorgeous, glamorous fashion, everywhere the eye could see. We might be missing the poignancy of #WhyWeWearBlack, but we have to admit, Hollywood's best definitely put their best feet forward at the SAG Awards. Here are 10 stars who looked so fabulous, we can't stop staring at their photos.
Mandy Moore in Ralph Lauren
We love when stars celebrate themselves, vanity be damned. Mandy Moore's sequinned cobalt Ralph Lauren slip dress was gorgeous anyway, but as a throwback to her younger self, it became just that much more compelling. At 20, Mandy wore a similar white Ralph Lauren linen dress for the premiere of Saved in LA. Her stylist Erica Cloud told People magazine that the choice was "symbolic of her rebirth", considering her return to Hollywood after a hiatus of several years. "It shows she's still herself, but just an updated version." Even better? Mandy's cobalt gown was co-ordinated to match her This Is Us co-stars Susan Kelechi Watson and Chrissy Metz.
Gina Rodriguez in Rosario
We loved Gina's flowy beaded Rosario gown with a fitted black bodice, and we've always loved her million-watt smile, but what really, really loved about Gina's SAG Awards red carpet look was the prominently displayed Time's Up pin on the bodice - a subtle but fitting call-back to the historic Golden Globes 2018.
Lupita Nyong'o in Ralph & Russo
Lupita was a vision to behold in her shimmering silver Ralph & Russo column gown with a sheer black plume lace. The gown hugged her hourglass figure to perfection, complemented perfectly by a tight, textured close crop, just the right amount of strobed glow on her cheeks, minimal makeup and delicate drop earrings and rings.
Yara Shahidi in Ralph Lauren
Everything about Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi's SAG Awards red carpet look says bold, no-nonsense and a poise that belies her young age (17). In a black strapless Ralph Lauren jumpsuit with a sculptural train and glamorous bow, dark red lip and voluminous natural curl, Yara was definitely one of the show-stealers at the SAG Awards for her sartorial choice.
Susan Sarandon in Alberta Ferretti
The legendary Susan Sarandon, nominated for Feud: Bette & Joan, looked like she had walked out of a magazine spread for old-school Hollywood glamour in her strapless Alberta Ferretti gown in sequinned dark blue. While we loved her loose waves and barely-there makeup, what made her stand out in the sea of sequins were her dark sunglasses. When you're Susan Sarandon, you make the rules, instead of playing by them, evidently.
Allison Janney in Yanina Couture
The I, Tonya star was unarguably one of the most dazzling stars on the red carpet sheathed from neck to toe in a figure-hugging, floor-length Yanina Couture gown in sequinned gun-mental silver. With a high neckline, long sleeves, peaked shoulders and long train, Allison looked like she had just stepped off the sets of a glamour-meets-sci-fi blockbuster.
Nicole Kidman in Armani Prive
Speaking of glittering gowns in metallic colours, Nicole Kidman's ankle-length sequinned bronze and gold gown from Armani Prive was just as eye-catching and glamorous as Allison's. With a dipping open back and the large sequinned rose adorning one shoulder, Nicole's look was sexy, powerful and totally on-point.
Millie Bobby Brown in Calvin Klein
How do you not love a girl who pairs Converse shoes with a sequinned designer number with a cape? 2017's breakout star from Netflix's Stranger Things, Millie Bobby Brown in her pale pink Calvin Klein halter dress looked like the badass but fashionable teen superhero we've all been waiting for!
Mary J. Blige in Jean Louis Sabaj
In her interview on the red carpet, Mary J. Blige opened up about her recent struggle, ending a long marriage, while saying, "I learned that I'm really stronger than I even knew," If 'strength' is the mantra Mary is living by these days, it definitely found its way in her choice of outfit for the SAG Awards. In a dramatic one-shouldered Jean Louis Sabaj gown in stark black and white gown, Mary looks like she's ready to take flight and rule the skies.
Tracee Ellis Ross in Ralph & Russo
The Black-ish actress looked like a Greek goddess in a sequinned white custom Ralph & Russo gown with a cape and a demure leg-slit, box clutch and pointy heels. Her all-white ensemble was completed with a pair of ruby teardrop danglers and a bright red lipstick. Just before the SAG Awards appearance, she also addressed the rumours regarding her Black-ish salary renegotiations. While covertly admitting that she was in talks to secure a pay hike, she wrote on Twitter that she had not made any threats about appearing in fewer episodes if she was paid lesser than her male co-star, Anthony Anderson.
