Jeweller killed in west Delhi robbery

New Delhi: It was just another day for Ashok Kumar at his jewellery shop in the busy Tilak Nagar market. His elder brother, Deen Dayal had taken off and gone to their house on the first floor of the building.

Kumar was bracing for the evening rush as the scorching heat keep most of the shoppers away during the day time. However, on Sunday evening he was about to get some unexpected visitors.

At around 6 pm, five people, travelling on two bikes, barged into Ashok's shop, DD Jewellers. The assailants slit Kumar's throat with a sharp edged weapon and stabbed him repeatedly with a knife. Before fleeing they took away Rs 1.5 lakh in cash.

DD Jewellers is situated opposite Chand Nagar gurdwara, one of the most congested spots in Tilak Nagar market.

When Deen Dayal returned to the shop, he saw some bikers leaving. He found his younger brother lying in a pool of blood. Kumar was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Sharad Aggrawal.

The police have detained Deen Dayal and some other people for questioning.
