When Tech Acts Up: Shahid Kapoor's Video Of Struggle With G-Wagen's Door Is Viral

A video circulating on social media shows Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor struggling to open the door of his Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The clip captures the moment when the technology malfunctions, making it difficult for him to use the vehicle. This amusing incident has attracted significant attention from both car enthusiasts and fans.

Interestingly, doors on the G-Class don't come with a pull-to-open-type lever. Instead, one needs to press a circular button to unlatch the door. The system is very-much mechanical, however, it looks like there was some glitch with the centre locking system.

Viral Incident

In the Instagram reel, Shahid Kapoor approaches the driver's door of his G 450d model and pulls repeatedly without success. In the short clip, the actor can be seen struggling to open the door and repeatedly uses the remote key to lock and unlock the door before the door is released and pulled out by the actor.

Vehicle Context

Shahid Kapoor possesses a G 450d, which is valued at around Rs 2.90 crore (ex-showroom) in India, renowned for its diesel engine and distinctive boxy design. It is powered by a 3.0-litre straight-six turbocharged diesel powertrain that generates 362 bhp and 750 Nm of peak torque. The latest G 450d replaces the former G 400d in the series.

This engine is paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that offers an extra 20 bhp when necessary during initial acceleration. Power delivery is managed to all four wheels via a 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

The G 450d can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 5.8 seconds, achieving a maximum speed of 210 km/h. Its off-road prowess is supported by a ground clearance of 241 mm and a water traversing capability of 700 mm. This rugged vehicle features an approach angle of 31 degrees, a breakover angle of 26 degrees, and a departure angle of 30 degrees.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, also called the G-Wagen, features robust, heavy-duty doors engineered for off-road durability and luxury. The doors open at a wide angle, up to 90 degrees in some variants, for easy access, supported by sturdy hinges on the 2.5-tonne weight vehicle.
