Rahul Gandhi's take on Pakistan
NDTV Correspondent, Wednesday October 14, 2009, Shimla

Rahul Gandhi has said that India "gives too much importance to Pakistan."

Speaking in Shimla, the Congress General Secretary said India has acquired a stature far greater than Pakistan's.

"I don't think we should be compared to Pakistan. There's no comparison. I feel we give too much time in our mind to Pakistan. I don't think Pakistan is half as important as we make it, he said.

"We are at different level now, we are becoming a serious international player. Pakistan is a small piece of our worldview. There are issues coming out of Pakistan that have to be managed and they will be managed," he added.

I think that its after a long time that someone big in Indian politics has told something sensible to hear and work on. The alibi that we have created and nurtured for almost seven decades should be dumped and we should have the political and social will and take on real issues of unemployment, hunger, proverty, caste etc etc. A huge percentage of our GDP goes for defence budget while our economy ails. We should see if this is the personal comment of Mr. Gandhi or Congress party or the UPA govt shares the same view and don they have the guts to do away with the jingoist elements of India and take our country forward.

I do not agree with Shreedhar. If Pakistan Taliban, attack India and china also joins it's hands we are not losing peace of mind, losing land also. Do not underestimate the enemy.
