Supreme Court files petition in Supreme Court
NDTV Correspondent, Tuesday December 1, 2009, New Delhi

In strange case, the country's top court has filed a petition in the Supreme Court itself challenging Central Information Commission's (CIC) orders and wants a stay.

The CIC had directed the Supreme Court registry to furnish information relating to correspondence between the Chief Justice of India (CJI) and Madras High Court Judge R Regupathy on the alleged interference by a Union minister.

The CIC had also directed the apex court to provide details pertaining to the recent appointment of judges to the Supreme Court. These details will have to be furnished to an RTI activist S C Agrawal within 15 days.

Central Public Information Officer of the Supreme Court has challenged both these orders in the Supreme Court.

I don't know how the apex court has chosen to file its own case in its own chamber as it is against all the canons of 'natural justice' by the principle of you cannot be a judge for your own cause.
