Third crash in a week on Bandra-Worli sea link
NDTV Correspondent, Wednesday December 16, 2009, Mumbai

Two people were seriously injured when two cars crashed into each other on the Bandra-Worli sea link in Mumbai on Wednesday morning.

The injured have been rushed to Lilavati hospital.

The sea link is virtually becoming a death trap. This is the third accident to be reported in a week's time.

The Bandra-Worli sea link has cut travel time by at least half an hour on a crucial route that connects north to south Mumbai.

India's first sea bridge, which was opened to traffic on June 30, 2009, aims to ease chronic congestion on Mumbai's roads.

It takes less than 10 minutes to drive across the five km-long bridge.

It took 46 years for the idea of a sea link to become a reality in Mumbai. The 5.6 km Bandra-Worli sea link bridge connects the northern suburb of Bandra to Worli in South Mumbai. It is an eight-lane twin carriageway.

Madhur & Naren, now we cant expect the govt/NGO's to come to our rescue. 'WE' have to make the difference. The people have to bring about the change. How many us follow traffic rules properly? have you tried telling your friends to follow lane discipline? On a traffic light how many of us follow lane discipline? India has got a major problem with its population and the existing infrastructure. We have to come up with ways to improve our condition. We should encourage the use of public transport thats the one way we can make a difference. Right now if the number of cars on a traffic light follow lane discipline then they would be queuing up to the previous traffic light.

We Indians need to first learn proper traffic sense and also review the process of issuing driving licenses to all and sundry. Thorough check of driving ability needs to be done before issuing licenses
