New Delhi: From visiting his home state Gujarat for the first time since he was sworn in as Prime Minister to hosting visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping in Ahmedabad, Narendra Modi had a very busy 64th birthday on September 17.

Yet, even with a grueling and packed schedule, the PM, after landing back in Delhi late at night, took to the micro-blogging site Twitter to thank friend and well-wishers who greeted him on his birthday.

In a session that lasted about an hour, PM Modi thanked Cabinet colleagues, spiritual leaders and many others. He also thanked Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and re-tweeted his tweet, something he did not do for anybody else, displaying their special friendship, according to a press release by the Prime Minister's Office.

PM Modi, who has 6.51 million followers on Twitter, replied to about 50 well-wishers, including senior BJP leaders Nitin Gadkari, Rajnath Singh and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. In Hindi, he also thanked iconic playback singer Lata Mangeshkar.

Another well-wisher shared a photo of a greeting card made by his daughter for the PM. Mr Modi, asked the man to convey his good wishes to his daughter.

Excited to see replies by the PM himself, one person on twitter remarked that even around midnight, PM Modi can wake everyone up and energise them.

The PM finally signed off by posting in a series of tweets, "Thanks friends! This was a really refreshing interaction with you all on Twitter. My sincerest thanks to everyone for the kind wishes."
