The BJP in its manifesto for Telangana has promised to form a committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge to go into alleged corruption by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, headed by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, popularly known as KCR .
Home Minister Amit Shah, who is campaigning in the southern state, today alleged KCR has turned Telangana into a hub of corruption and the state is facing a huge economic debt due to his inefficient policies.
"Your one vote in the upcoming elections will decide the future of Telangana and India. Telangana was a surplus state when it was formed, but today KCR has put the state in a debt of more than Rs 3 lakh crore. KCR has made Telangana a hub of corruption. BRS means - Bhrashtachar Rishwatkhori Samithi," Mr Shah said at a rally in Warangal today.
The BJP in its Telangana manifesto said it will form a committee to draft a Uniform Civil Code to consolidate and harmonise personal laws. It promised unconstitutional religion-based reservations will be scrapped and reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBC), Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes would be increased.
If the BJP comes to power in Telangana, it will appoint a commission of enquiry headed by a retired Supreme Court judge to look into all corruption allegations, including the Kaleswaram and Dharani scams, and other financial irregularities that allegedly happened under the BRS government, the manifesto said.
The BJP promised four free cooking gas (LPG) cylinders every year to Ujwala scheme beneficiaries in Telangana.
Mr Shah said the party, if it wins in Telangana, will organise darshan trips to the Ram temple in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya for free. The Home Minister alleged the BRS government gave religion-based reservation to Muslims, which is "unconstitutional". "Reservation was given to Muslims by snatching it away from OBCs and STs under pressure from Owaisi," Mr Shah said, referring to AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi.
In the last assembly election in 2018, the ruling BRS, previously known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), won 88 of the 119 seats, grabbing 47.4 per cent of the total vote share. The Congress came a distant second with just 19 seats.
Telangana will vote on November 30; votes will be counted on December 3.
