I am with Kanimozhi, says Khushbu

Chennai: Woman for woman. Actor and newbie politico Khushbu has stated, "As a woman I am with Kanimozhi."

Khushbu, who knows well what it is to be in the eye of a much-publicised controversy, also told NDTV, "Kanimozhi is undergoing lot of turmoil as a woman and as a mother...I have been through something very similar...Kanimozhi is a strong person."

Kanimozhi, who is DMK chief and Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi's daughter, has been charged with corruption and accepting a bribe in the 2G scam case. She has applied for bail and a special court will continue hearing her bail plea tomorrow. If Kanimozhi is denied bail, she faces arrest.

But Khushbu, the once-wildly-popular south Indian actress who joined the DMK a year ago, is certain that, "Kanimozhi is going to come through scratch-free."

Khushbu had enrolled herself as a primary member of M Karunanidhi's party only a few weeks after she had won a protracted legal battle over a controversial remark she made some years ago on pre-marital sex in April last year.

The actress, who at one time was so popular that there were temples built deifying her, saw some fringe elements taking to the streets against her after a magazine interview where she said, "No educated man would expect his bride to be a virgin". The comment had sparked outrage in southern India and multiple criminal cases were filed against her.

Khushbu apologised for her remark, explained she had not meant to endorse pre-marital sex, but also fought on and finally the Supreme Court quashed 22 criminal cases against her last year. When she won her legal battle the actor said, "I have always been a fighter. I was always right."
