Green Card Holder Women's Association hold rally, block highway

Bhubaneswar: A large number of women green card holders on Wednesday held a rally in Bhubaneswar and blocked national highways at different places in Odisha demanding fulfilment of their demands.

The women under the banner of Odisha Green Card Holder Women's Association threatened an indefinite strike demanding allowances, land, jobs and discounted fares in trains and buses.

The road blockade left hundreds of vehicles stranded on both side of the NH at Uttara near the state capital, Nakhara between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, near Kendrapara town on National Highway-5(A) connecting Paradip and Daitari.

Irked over the delay in fulfilment of their demands by the state government, the women wanted to meet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the parade venue, but were stopped by police at the Mahatma Gandhi Marg.

Green card holders are those who undergo health department sponsored family planning birth control measures.
