Authorities Inspect Bengaluru's Polluted Bellandur Lake

Bengaluru: With pollution leading to snowy froth that has troubled commuters and buzzed across social media, Bengaluru's Bellandur Lake has made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Officials from the pollution and water boards inspected the lake on Wednesday.

The Chairperson of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Mr Lakshman said, "For the first time from the Pollution Control Board, they already allotted, the Government has permitted to allot 100 crores to improve the basic minimum things for the restoration for this lake. And other agencies, other stake holders they are also sharing. I think we have to plan a comprehensive design to eradicate all these problems."

But people living here are not holding their breath, unless it is to avoid the smell. They say they have heard promises before.

One resident, Praveen said, "I do not expect anything from them. Recently I read that they have allocated some 200 crores to clean up this lake. Because all the drainages from Kormanangala and Bellandur and different places are connected to this lake, even if they clean up this lake, it will be a one-time solution. Over a long period of time, the waste from Bellandur and Koramangala will end up in this lake and it is still going to be the same."

Clearly, promises need to be made of more than just froth for this polluted city lake to be restored.
