NDA govt cost India Rs 1 lakh crore: Raja
NDTV Correspondent, Saturday October 31, 2009, New Delhi
Union Telecom Minister A Raja, whose ministry was raided by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has been under fire over irregularities in the allocation of new telecom licences.

He has now hit back at his political opponents accusing the NDA government of causing a larger loss to the exchequer.

"NDA government's decision have caused losses of around Rs 1 lakh crore till now," he said.

But the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is gunning for Raja's head and have sought his resignation, accusing him of causing losses worth thousands of crores to the government.

"He is completely wrong. The allotment was done through corrupt means; facts are clear and he can't escape by arguing otherwise," BJP spokesperson Arun Jaitley said.

Raja's accusations centre around NDA's decision to allocate additional spectrum without an upfront charge, allocate spectrum in the 900 MHZ band and reduce the quantum of the licence fee.

Even as the CBI investigates the matter and the political slugfest continues, telecom companies are getting worried as a policy paralysis at the crucial telecom ministry can play havoc with their expansion plans.

Raja, I agree with Mahanty, and that is the reason people voted to you. don't blame again those people. power is in your hand, and if you are really innocent, let them CBI do their job.

Why Raja was silent for so long ?? Is it to defend himself against the allegations levelled by the Oppositions ? Let there be a CBI probe into the allegations against Raja to unearth the facts.
