Summer travel in India often comes with expectations of crowded streets, traffic noise and urban chaos. If you are looking for a noticeably different experience, Shenaz Treasury shares her experience of a summer escape that stood out for its calm environment, well-kept streets and a sense of safety for women even after dark.

In a video shared on Instagram, Shenaz revealed that she recently travelled to Aizawl in Mizoram. The actress noted the issues often criticised in other states, such as aggressive traffic and littering, are largely nonexistent in the state. She then listed eight strengths of Mizoram, which make it one of the best states in India.

"Send this to someone who's looking for a summer escape. PS: Is this state even in India? No honking, no garbage on the road, safe for women even at night, women running the show here, traffic all in one line. Wow! This is also my India," read the caption.

Here's why Shenaz Treasury thinks Mizoram is the best state in India:
1. Horn-free roads

In the video, Shenaz is seen riding a scooter through a crowded street and notes the complete absence of honking, even amid traffic. She emphasises that the issues people typically complain about in other states do not exist there, calling it a horn-free state. “Look at the traffic, and not a single person is honking,” she says.

2. Cars stop for pedestrians

The actress compares the pedestrian experiences elsewhere in India, where vehicles rarely stop for them. However, in Aizawl, the cars actually stop for pedestrians at zebra crossings.

3. Women run the show

Shenaz observed that women are highly visible across Aizawl, running businesses and shops throughout the city. “Women are running the world over here,” she said.

4. House husbands

The actress spoke to a local who explained that many households have house husbands. These men take on cooking, cleaning, and supporting their wives while they work.

5. Zero trash

Shenaz described Mizoram's streets as clean and free of trash, attributing this to residents managing their own waste. She noted that even the single-use plastic bottles and wrappers commonly seen in other cities are absent from the streets.

6. Safe for women

Shenaz described Mizoram as extremely safe for women, stating that even school-going girls can walk alone at 3 am. She shared her own experience of walking alone at midnight and feeling completely safe. She added that residents often leave their doors unlocked and shops unattended, where owners simply place a container for payment and label items with prices.

7. Literacy rate

Shenaz challenged the common perception that Kerala has the highest literacy rate in India. She stated that Mizoram holds that distinction instead, with a 98 per cent literacy rate.

8. Tourism

Shenaz concluded that the best aspect of Mizoram is its hospitality, noting that locals welcome tourists with open arms.
