Tamil Nadu BJP leader murder: Madras High Court dismisses plea for CBI probe

Chennai: The Madras High Court today dismissed a petition seeking to transfer the investigation into the murder of BJP Tamil Nadu General Secretary V Ramesh at Salem to the CBI.

Manoharan, a friend of Ramesh, in his petition had contended that since different extremists groups from various places were involved in the murder, the investigation be transfered to the CBI.

The bench observed that immediately after the murder of Ramesh on July 19, Tamil Nadu police swung into action and its CB-CID took up the investigation.

The police have also identified some of the accused in the offence and steps have also been taken by them to arrest the them, the bench said.

The bench said the probe was at a crucial stage and the given facts and circumstances of the case, it was of the view that at this stage the investigation need not be transferred to the CBI.
