Odisha's Manoj Kumar Maharana breaks Guinness World Record for the most straws stuffed in the mouth
Odisha's Manoj Kumar Maharana is making headlines after setting a rather strange Guinness World Record. Mr Maharana crammed an astounding 459 drinking straws into his mouth at once to break the record for the most straws stuffed in the mouth (hands off). The record had remained unbeaten for the past eight years.
According to the
Guinness World Records, the 23-year-old had wanted to win the title "ever since he was a child," and was inspired to attempt the record after hearing about the previous record holder, Simon Elmore.
In order to break the record, Mr Maharana had to make sure all of the plastic straws were in his mouth for a minimum of at least 10 seconds without falling out.
As per the rules, the challenger cannot use their hands to support the straws during the 10-second period. They are, however, allowed to put rubber bands around the plastic straws to hold them together. Each straw must have a minimum diameter of 0.64 centimetres.

"This is the weirdest Guinness World Record ever..." comments one person on YouTube. "Imagine sitting at home and thinking: I'm gonna break the world record for most straws in a mouth," writes another.
