At large, silver jewellery is not seen as a rich and opulent metal as gold is. Fair enough. But the thing about silver is that it brings a different kind of charm to a look - elegant, chic, and classy. I know a lot of people who prefer silver over gold jewellery any day because of its artistic, aesthetic and graceful look. At a time when minimalism is in, and people are opting for more sober things - be it in the area of clothes, decor, art - silver jewellery seems to have found a place for itself in the hearts of many.
Another reason why some people prefer gold over silver is that silver also needs a wee bit of maintenance if you don't wear it regularly. Silver needs taking care of in certain ways, as it oxidizes over time. But if the silver tarnishes, it means it is good silver. And as far as taking care of it is concerned, here's what you can do.

Storage
Obviously, if you wear silver jewellery regularly, it will hardly tarnish. But when you want to store the pieces, make sure that you keep it in an airtight box, and in a cool and dry place (sunlight and moisture speed up tarnishing). Also, consider throwing a piece of chalk or silica packs in the box, it absorbs the moisture.
Cleaning
Many people may not know this but it is pretty simple to clean silver jewellery at home. Just make a paste out of baking powder and water and use a toothbrush to clean the silver piece off. For heavy tarnish, put the silver in a mix of white vinegar (half a cup) and baking soda (2 tbsp) and keep it in for 2-3 hours. Post that, rinse and dry.

Caring
Try taking off the silver jewellery when you take showers or take a swim. It is also a good call to remove your silver when you are doing household chores, and when you are putting on makeup. There is a reason why women wear their jewellery last.
