The hairdressing community can vouch for the fact that 2020 began with a bang. Matrix Hair Fest 2020, which took place in sunny Goa this February, was Asia's largest hair dressing festival. In line with brand's vision to educate and unify the expansive hair sphere, the 2-day event saw international Matrix ambassadors Philip Wolff, Alfredo Lewis and Danielle Keasling showcase their incredible cutting, colouring and styling techniques to throngs of hairdressing fans. We got the chance to speak to the 3 hair magicians at Matrix Hair Fest 2020 and discussed everything, from Philip's BTS hair secrets during Keeping Up With The Kardashians to Alfredo's expert tips to care for your locks at home.
"The Right After Care Keeps Your Hair Looking Good Between Appointments"
Celebrity hairstylist and Matrix ambassador Alfredo Lewis believes that after care is just as important as the service itself. "If you spend a lot of money to get your hair done, you can't expect to pay no money for after care. For hair colour, the products that you use after are just as important as the hair colour and stylist using them," says Alfredo. His most memorable hairstyling experience was styling Jennifer Aniston. "When her regular assistant got sick, I was called to the salon to do her hair for a commercial. I was only 19 and ended up on a set for 16 hours styling Jennifer Aniston's hair!"
"The Kardashians Are Beautiful - It's Hard To Make Them Look Bad"
Matrix Global Ambassador Philip is a master of his craft. On his signature cutting techniques, he says, "On longer hair, I love doing face framing and long layers. One's height, jaw line, eyes, cheekbones, head shape and texture are all different. I personalise it with face framing. To me, hair cutting isn't all chop chop chop. It is an art form that calls for sometimes, precision and sometimes, freestyle." Philip also tells us what it is like to style the Kardashians, from Kim to Kylie to Kendall - "I began working with them a long time ago. I didn't watch television so one day, I came across this girl Kim Kardashian, met her family and worked with them for several years, starting from season 1 of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Kim's hair was great to work with - it was one of those hair types that if you told it what to do, it did it. They are all beautiful people; it's hard to make them look bad."

"I Try To Think Outside The Box"
Danielle Keasling, Matrix artistic director and global team member is all about styling hair without the use of heating tools. "Use bobby pins, ribbon and grid material to create texture," she suggests. For treating frizz and dryness, moisture is her expert recommendation. "Hair either needs protein or moisture and if yours is very dry, you're usually lacking moisture," she adds. On her experience of working with Lady Gaga's team for the 2017 Superbowl, Danielle says, "We collaborated on working with the dancers, for which we had 5 days of dress rehearsals. We worked on what style to create, how we'd like them to play out and keeping them secure for the performance."
