Awantipora is another site to visit when in Kashmir. The place is named after the Kashmiri king Avantivarman and is situated on the Sringar-Pahalgam Highway. Hazratbal is said to be the holiest shrine in Kashmir. It is where a hair strand belonging to Prophet Mohammed is kept. Hazrat means holy or respected, and bal means location, which results in the phrase “holy place”. It is a popular tourist destination, and numerous followers and visitors from across the nation visit this respected place.
