Jaipur:
A teenage couple from Meerut, who were found in an unconscious state near the booking counter of Jaipur railway station on Monday, had consumed a poisonous substance with an intention to kill themselves.
The revelation came when the duo were interrogated by the Rajasthan Railway Police on Tuesday.
According to the reports, Nishant Choudhary (17) and Pooja (16) said their families were strictly against the relationship and wanted to separate them, therefore they decide to take the extreme step.
The police also said that the duo left their homes about a week back to spend sometime together before ending their lives.
Earlier, the police were exploring on the possibility of the duo been drugged by fellow passengers but things became clear after their statement was recorded. The police said the couple's condition is now stable and their family members have been informed.
"We have registered a case under Section 309 (suicide attempt) under IPC and are waiting for the medical report," said an official.
